Thesis Exploration: Visual Identity

I designed Visual Identity, a photography book as part of my Visual Communication Design BFA thesis. The objective was to visually explore the contrast between one's self-perception and how others perceive them, aiming to foster a more genuine and empathetic relationship with oneself. I delved into different facets of my persona, including a natural appearance, everyday makeup, evening makeup, and digital filters. By creating mirror collages, I examined my self-understanding, highlighting features and aspects that I wouldn't typically focus on. I also invited others to capture photographs of me, providing a perspective from their eyes. Each section of the book begins with a brief description encompassing both my self-perception and how others would describe me. The outcome is a captivating collection of photographs, capturing diverse angles of my face and enabling me to step beyond my usual viewpoint, gaining insight into the perceptions of others.

In addition, Visual Identity: Thesis Design Process is a companion book that delves into my research findings and the process behind this project in greater detail. It explores how I drew inspiration from the artistic techniques of renowned artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Soo Sunny Park, specifically her use of mirrors in three-dimensional spaces. The book highlights her contributions to my creative journey and also discusses other relevant research that influenced the development of my project.
